Now running a campground at Bakersfield, CA or an RV site may seem like the perfect job. It allows you to meet new people, spend some time outdoors (and if you are lucky – in some seriously beautiful places) and keep you active. It seems fascinating, all the benefits of running a bed and breakfast without the hassle of providing bed and breakfast.
The good news is that all of the above is true. The bad news is that running an RV site or campground can be really hard work and at times make you doubt the sanity of your life choice. But there is actually more good news to balance that out.
Some simple hints can make your management of that site so much easier and reduce your stress, and who doesn’t like seeing that stress meter fall from the red zone?
1. Use Technology
If you are running a campground or an RV space there’s an excellent chance that you’re going to have visitors arrive at any time of the night and day. Hiring staff to man an entrance is expensive and if you ever want to get a solid night’s sleep again you don’t want to be doing that yourself. But there is software that can help. Take for instance Bonfire. All it requires is a wi-fi connection and a connected smart device and your visitors will do it all themselves. No more instances of them simply assigning themselves a spot. It also offers a lot more functionality to make your life a little more stress-free. Kiosk Pro Plus will also help to assign folk to their spot – and you can pick up a used iPad for very little.
2. Signage
Many campgrounds and RV sites remain competitive due to the fact that they get return business. Those going away usually come back – and they will come back to those places where they had a pleasant experience. However, what will make that experience less than pleasant is the noise and rowdy parties. Simply putting up signage that reads ‘Family Campground.RC Stop’ can make a real difference. If that signage clearly states that those guilty of disturbing others will lose their deposit and those disturbed will receive theirs back in return that may be useful. However, be sure to check your legal liabilities prior to taking this step.
3. Four-Legged Freinds
Many of those, especially those who are today exploring the wonders of the Nomad Lifestyle in RVs will be accompanied by their pets. Providing outdoor shower facilities and bowls of water, as well as a pet run can do wonders when it comes to attracting a whole new class of clients. Perhaps stocking your gift shop with some pet-friendly products will make you a whole new set of regular clients?
4. Keep it Current
Your site needs to be fresh. That may mean putting in some new attractions each holiday season. Listen to your guests and find out what they want. Installing vending machines is a great idea – just make sure you know what the visitors want. Often doing something like that will not cost you a cent. owners of vending machines are always looking for new venues. Be shrewd enough and you can get a cut of the profits. Think hard about the cost benefits of that on-site store. It may be well worth the effort.
5. Connectivity
We live in an online age. If there is one benefit that campers and RV owners want it is fast wi-fi. If you can manage to provide that at no additional charge (and make sure it works) you have a distinct competitive advantage.
Above all, be nice. Be welcoming. Take pride in both your operation and the area around it. there is no doubt you are going to work hard, but the rewards, both financial and in friends made can be enormous.
